Question by bill: Should i continue studying or find a job, need advice?

Hello there people! I have to make a choice and I need your advice.
I’m currently 25 years old. I only hold a associate diploma in general education from a community college in California. my past work experience have been worked here there short term jobs:
- 3 months as a waiter in a restaurant
- 6 months as a teller in post office.
- 6 months as a activity coordinator in YMCA daycare center.

I got accepted an offer in University of Sydney(i live in australia) to do a Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree for 4 years. It is something similar to a Bach of Science/Arts combined course but the difference is it teaches analytical skills as well(you can google it online). It can be used as a “precourse” for students waiting to move onto medical/ law school postgraduate degree later, if they wish.
According to my age, and the work exp and merits do you think i should take up this offer or go find a job instead?
Financially i can still handle it because i can get a loan from the aus gov’t and they have “student allowances” weekly so i can handle daily expenses.

I just wanted to know if it’s a good decision to study or it’s better to find a job and gain more work experience instead considering my age my situation. Is it critical that i have to have at least a bachelor degree to get a decent job nowadays? I’m not looking to become a doctor or lawyer professional but i do have standards in life and i hope i can be middle class(upper middle) income. Just aiming to live a good life.

But yeah it’s the crossroads now, What Are your advices for me? Thanks.
yeah i just want to see your opinions, pls dont tell me like “this is your life you should think about what you want”.

um.. just weighing a 4 yr bachelor degree certificate or a 4 yr work experience infront of your future employer which one looks heavier?

Question by smitty: New Years Eve in Sydney – with wheelchair/disabled accessibility. Not necessarily in the CBD. Ideas?

I know it’s getting a bit late and I’ve been wracking my brain to find somewhere with a friendly, celebratory atmosphere that’s accessible in powered wheelchairs. Public transport is not being considered but parking (handicapped or not) is a requirement.
A view of the fireworks (even from any distance) would be great.
Info about handicap toilets would be great too but with place suggestions I can always make my own inquiries in that regard.
The southern side of Sydney would be my preference but would certainly consider all options.
A restaurant would be really good but I fear they are either booked solid or prohibitively expensive. Any clubs like RSL’s etc will be considered, but no overly loud dance clubs – party music is of course encouraged.
Indoors or outdoors, free or reasonably priced, it just should be fun (& obviously continue at least until after midnight!)

Looking forward to suggestions, may well be informative to others as well.

Question by Charlie :]: Education in Australia… part 2!!?

So I’m going to Sydney, Australia next month, I’m 17. I want to study Music and English Literature so my best bet would be to end up in University instead of TaFE.
I’ve done my GCSE’s and a year of college (AS level not A2), so will I have to go back to High School or College over there?
Whatever you can suggest/recommend would be appreciated.

Answer by Rebecca M
TAFE and Uni are differnet, it depends on what you want and need. I think that the best way for you to find the answer is to call both Uni & TAFE and ask the questions.

New Waterford is one of eight municipal units that now form the Cape Breton Regional Municiplaity. This coal mining centre on the Atlantic Ocean at the southern edge of Sydney Harbour was incorporated in 1913, just six years after large-scale coal mining began in the area. The settlement was originally called Barrachois with but a handful of homes there in 1874. The first coal mine in the area opened in 1867, but closed seven years later. It wasn’t until Dominion Coal Company began mining operations in 1907 that the settlement blossomed. The company opened four pits- Nos. 12, 14, 15 and 16- in quick succession and a booming “workers camp” soon developed. The name “New Waterford” was chosen by some of the Irish-born settlers in honour of the Irish seaport Waterford from where many of the pioneers had come. On Sept. 8, 1913, New Waterford became the 40th incorporated town in North America and the sixth in Cape Breton County. Schools and churches soon followed. St. Agnes in 1913 and Central in 1913, joined Mount Carmel School, built in 1912. Mount Carmel and St. Agnes parishes served the mostly Roman Catholic residents. New Waterford’s Calvin United Church was one of the first in all of Canada having united the Methodist and Presbyterian congregations in 1918, seven years prior to national church union in 1925. The town quickly settled into the routine of a busy coal-mining community with the sharp whistle of the collieries announcing shift changes at 8 am and 4 pm or

B Arts/ Commerce combined degree at Macquarie University or USYD (University of Sydney)? – Macquarie University Sydney September 2010

Macquarie University Library, Sydney, Asutralia

sydney macquarie university

Question by Denison: B Arts/ Commerce combined degree at Macquarie University or USYD (University of Sydney)?

I want to do these courses at University but unsure of which one to go to. Both have the same travel time from where I live, so that’s not much of a factor. I also would like to major in archaeology, if that makes any difference to the answer.
Macquarie goes for 4 years whilst USYD goes for 5

Best answer:

Answer by scat
If you wish to major in Commerce – then MqU is where you should be looking at. If you are thinking sbout majoring in Archaeology then only USyd should be the uni you should think of. MqU has NO experience or reputation in that field. This begs the question – why are you looking at doing a combined degree with commerce if your interest is in archaeology? They are in no way related and doing a combined degree will actually reduce your hiring ability in the archaeology field (employers will see you as fickle – not knowing where your interest lies) and in that field the competition is VERY tight.

PJ Gallaghers Hotel Parramatta Sydney Australia

PJ Gallaghers Parramatta, Patrick Gallagher the owner and namesake of this Parramatta institution talks about the inspiration behind the multi-million dollar fit out, this is a serious Irish Pub, with all of the fit out and artefacts being imported directly from Ireland. Patrick explains why they decided to make it an Irish Pub, and what being an Irish Pub is all about. With the somewhat corporate feel about this Pub, PJs is a family owned affair, with little touches of family sprinkled throughout the place, such as the excellent wine selection all named after Patrick and Angelas children.Check out more Australian Lifestyle stories at www.eatdosee.tv
