Do u think this is a good study path? – UWS Media Crew with Tim Flannery

Question by That’s what she said!!!: Do u think this is a good study path?

Sorry for making this so long.
Ok I live in Perth Western Australia. I would like to become an Actor but if I don’t make it would like to have a commerce degree as a backup plan. I currently participate in plays at school and I am studying Drama as a TEE (Tertiary entrance exam, for those who do not know, in Australia u need to do a series of examinations to get into your preferred University) subject. I am also going to NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Arts) in Sydney later this year to improve my skills. I also do Accounting and economics as other TEE subjects. So basically I want to get a good TER (tertiary entrance rank) to get in the University of Western Australia. At the University, I would like to do a commerce (or business) degree so I have a degree under my belt. Whilst doing this degree, I would like to continue to do the acting courses at UWA as post school experience in acting which is a necessity of what I would like to do after. After I have finished the degree and the acting course, I would be working part time for my dad who owns an accounting firm. Whilst working part time, I would like to study acting at WAAPA (Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts). This is where many great actors have studied from the likes of Heath Ledger and Hugh Jackman ( I think Hugh Jackman). When applying to go to WAAPA it says that I must have post school experience unless I get a scholarship which is not likely out of the whole of Western Australia. My post school experience will be the acting courses at the University of Western Australia. I know this will be expensive but I know acting is what I want to do. Do you think this is a good study path?
thanks alex for ur support

Best answer:

Answer by Alex
You know what it is you want to do. You know how to get to your goal of acting while at the same time keeping room for variables by getting different types of classes and education under your belt in case something changes. It sounds like you’ve given this alot of thought and know it’s the right thing for you. So yes, it seems like a good study path, wish you the best of luck in your endeavors.

In animal rights news, an Australian researcher proposes giving our co-inhabitants property rights. Dr. John Hadley from the University of Western Sydney has stated that the major cause of biodiversity loss is land clearing, which deprives animal friends of their home. To prevent this, Dr. Hadley recommends that certain species be legally considered as owners of their habitat. A person would be appointed guardian and be able to advocate for the animal in the legal system. Dr. Hadley further commented that his recommendation is very much in keeping with the Commonwealth Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Act, an existing legislation which makes substantial references to animals. Our heartfelt gratitude, Dr. John Hadley, for your forward-thinking suggestion. May our cherished animal friends be protected to live in safety and happiness always.

Question by Ivy League Kid: Should I study abroad my last semester of college as well?

I am right now in Barcelona and I the past few days of spring break, I travelled through Paris and southern France and I have to say that I absolutely loved it..especially Paris! It is by far the best city I have seen in Europe with many friendly people although it does have many scam artists and scumbags too. Before that, I travelled through London and Madrid and both cities were amazing as well. I have become addicted to travelling and just want to see all of europe and other parts of the world as well. However, I can only study abroad again during my last semester of college and this is indeed a dilemna. My last semester of college is my last time I will ever be at my university and it will be the last time I get to live with all my college friends in my graduating class. Yet at the same time, I don’t think I will ever be able to do a study abroad experience again if I plan to go to law school after graduation. What should I do? I really want to spend 3 months travelling Australia and New Zealand and see Melbourne, Sydney, the Gold Coast, and Auckland and of course see the exotic wildlife there such as kangaroos and koalas.

Question by Steve: Another article in the paper regarding career women 35+ who cannot get a suitable husbands?

In Australia, so they buy some sperm from a sperm bank, pack in their career and become single mothers.

The article went on to say that are now only 10 registered sperm donors in the state of NSW and that career women in Australia increasingly cannot find suitable husbands before they hit the age of 40, when their fertility rapidly declines. Importing sperm will shortly be made illegal in Australia, so these women will probably have to fly to the US, pay to get themselves inseminated and then fly back to Australia. The article said that there is a “Man drought” in Sydney, which has been my observation as well.

The woman in question around whom the article was written, will now enjoy all the hard work and low career prospects of single motherhood.

If all the discrimination against men in education and work in Australia is stopped, maybe us highly educated career men will start having relationships with highly educated career women again. As it is, men of my generation (I am 35), are often not interested in having relationships with career women and instead go for non career women, who often do not have degrees. School education systems in Australia are aimed at ensuring that girls do better than boys and we also have to put up with feminism at university and anti-male laws being popped out, so this is how many of us career men react.

Opinions please
